Overview
The Advanced Management of Diabetes course will provide learners with the knowledge to assist a patient living with diabetes. A subcutaneous injection is a method of administering medication. Subcutaneous means under the skin. In this type of injection, a short needle is used to inject a drug into the tissue layer between the skin and the muscle. Subcutaneous Injection
- Read, Interpret and implement Medication plans developed by a Medical practitioner – clinical supervision requirements
- Safety in medication administration Right Patient, Right Dose, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Time, expiry date and safety checks
- Follow Personal Hygiene and infection control procedures
- Follow safe injection procedures using pumps and pens (Containing pre- measured doses) Monitor for any side effects or adverse reactions
- Maintain records
- Understand different injection methods and related equipment
- Medication checking and recording requirements
- Safe needle disposal
- Quality check protocols when calculating and delivering variable doses
